Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install an EV charger at home?

Yes, most homes can install an EV charger, subject to:

1) Electrical capacity
The available incoming power supply (single-phase or three-phase) determines the type of charger that can be installed.

2) Distance from the distribution board
This affects cable routing, installation complexity and overall cost.

3) Property type
Requirements may differ between landed properties and condominiums.

Will installing an EV charger overload my house?

No — when properly designed and installed, an EV charger will not overload your electrical system.

We carry out a detailed assessment to ensure safe operation, including:

  • Incoming power supply capacity
To confirm your system can support the additional load
  • Existing electrical usage
To evaluate current demand within the property

Dedicated circuit protection
To ensure the charger is safely protected with the correct devices

Are EV Chargers compatible with Different EV Car Brands in Singapore?

Yes — most EV chargers in Singapore are compatible with different EV car brands, provided they use the same charging standard.

Most EVs in Singapore use the following charging connector standards:

  • Type 2 connector for AC charging
  • CCS2 connector for DC fast charging

These are commonly supported by many EV brands in Singapore, including:

  • BYD
  • Tesla
  • BMW
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Hyundai
  • Kia
  • MG
  • XPENG
  • Nissan
  • and many others

However, actual charging speed may vary depending on:

  • The vehicle’s onboard charger (OBC)
  • The charger power rating
  • Single-phase or three-phase electrical supply
  • Vehicle charging limitations

Before installation, we assess your vehicle model and property electrical setup to recommend the most suitable and compatible EV charging solution.

Do I need to register my EV charger?

Yes.

All EV chargers must be registered and registration fee paid with the Land Transport Authority

We provide end-to-end support to ensure a smooth registration process, including:

  • Submission of application
  • Preparation of required documentation
  • Issuance of Certificate of Fitness (COF)

What is the difference between 7.4kW and 22kW AC EV Charger?

The main difference is the charging speed and power supply requirement.

  • 7.4kW charger
    • Uses single-phase power
    • Suitable for most homes
    • Ideal for overnight charging
  • 22kW charger
    • Requires three-phase power
    • Charges faster (if supported by the vehicle)
    • Suitable for landed homes or commercial setups

However, actual charging speed depends on your vehicle’s onboard charger (OBC).

Does the EV car’s onboard charger affect charging speed?

Yes — this is one of the most important factors.

Every EV car  has an onboard charger (OBC) that limits how much AC power it can accept.

Example:

  • If your charger is 22kW
  • But your car OBC is 7kW
Your car will only charge at 7kW maximum

Why does 11kW AC charger only charge at around 3.5kW when EV car’s onboard charger is 7kW?

This usually happens due to how the vehicle uses electrical phases.

Most 11kW AC chargers are three-phase, while many EVs with a 7kW onboard charger (OBC) are designed to use single-phase charging only.

In this case:

  • The charger supplies power across 3 phases
  • But the car only draws from 1 phase

As a result, the available power is split:
11kW ÷ 3 ≈ 3.7kW

How long does it take to charge an EV car?

Charging time depends on 3 factors:

  1. Battery size (kWh)
  2. Charger power (kW)
  3. State of charge (remaining battery)
 Simple Calculation:

Charging Time = Battery Size ÷ Charging Power

Example:

  • Battery: 60 kWh
  • Charger: 7 kW

➡️ Charging time ≈ 8–9 hours

(Actual time may be longer due to efficiency loss and charging slowdown at higher battery levels)

How Much Does It Cost to Charge an EV at Home Compared to Public Charging in Singapore?

Charging an EV at home is generally more affordable compared to using public charging stations.

Home Charging

The cost depends on:

  • Your household electricity tariff
  • Your EV battery size
  • Charging efficiency

As a general estimate in Singapore, residential electricity tariffs are typically around S$0.25–S$0.30 per kWh, depending on your electricity provider and plan.

Simple Charging Cost Formula
Example (Home Charging)

If:

  • EV battery size = 60 kWh
  • Electricity rate = S$0.28 per kWh

Then:

A full charge would cost approximately S$16.80 at home.

This may provide around 300–450 km of driving range, depending on the vehicle.

Home charging is usually the most cost-effective and convenient option, especially for overnight charging.

Public Charging

Public charging rates vary depending on:

  • AC or DC charging
  • Charging provider
  • Location
  • Charging speed

Typical public charging rates in Singapore:

  • AC charging: approximately S$0.50–S$0.70 per kWh
  • DC fast charging: approximately S$0.70–S$1.00+ per kWh
Example (Public Charging)

If:

  • EV battery size = 60 kWh
  • Public charging rate = S$0.80 per kWh

Then:

A full charge at a public DC charger may cost approximately S$48.00.

Which Option Is Better?
  • Home charging is usually more economical and convenient for daily use.
  • Public charging is useful for fast top-ups, long-distance travel or when home charging is unavailable.

Actual charging costs will vary depending on electricity tariff, charging provider, vehicle efficiency and battery capacity.

If my house does not have enough power, can I still install an EV charger?

Yes. If your home power supply is limited, we can reduce the charger current to match the available electrical capacity.

However, reducing the current will also lower the charging power, which means the vehicle will take a longer time to charge. Our team will assess your site and recommend a safe and suitable charging setting.
